A customer reported that an email task in an ETL job was failing with the message:
"An error occurred while connecting to the outgoing email server: <IP Address> TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are not supported. Please upgrade/update your client to support TLS 1.2."
You'll see this error using anything in the software that is SMTP based, such as alerts and reports.
We found the source of the issue is that the application server does not have the Windows Server update KB3140245. Which can be downloaded here:
Download and install the version of the update that that matches your Windows Server version. It might requires a server restart.
If the update doesn't work you can look in the registry for specific entries. The winhttp should be set to 0x00000800 to enable TLS1.2 by default.
