Migrating: MS SQL to a New Server

This requires being connected to your server.

With new versions of MS SQL Server being released, it is common for customers to want to update to a later version of MS SQL Server.

1. Back up your iDashboards Databases. In a typical installation, you will have 3 databases:
   • iDashboards
   • idb_datastore
   • idb_workbooks (Excel Database)

(Place the files in a location that can be accessed by your new server.)

2. Restore the Databases on the New Server. On the new server, you are going to restore the databases you just backed up.

Please Note: you may need to click on Files and select: Relocate all files to folder

This is commonly needed when changing versions of SQL server.

3. Disconnect the Current Database User. If you are planning on using the SAME user-id, you will need to disconnect the current database user by going under the database, security, logins, and deleting the user-id.

     4. Map-Server User to iDashboards Databases. You will want to re-map the user under the Login     

Properties then, User Mapping. 

Since v10.2 you have the ability to automatically update the repository database through the application, we suggest that you give the db_owner permission to all 3 of the iDashboards databases.
